Indoor air quality: how you can fight the Saharan dust.

By Avanelle Homes · Published June 24, 2026 · Updated September 12, 2026

The dust from the Saharan desert in Africa has made its way to San Antonio once again.

Unfortunately, we can’t control global wind and rain patterns. However, we can help you take control of your home’s indoor air quality right here in Texas.

NOAA describes the Saharan Air Layer as a mass of very dry, dusty air that forms over the Sahara Desert during the late spring, summer and early fall, and that can reach as far west as Florida, Central America and even Texas.

What the air conditioner can do

Avanelle Cooling & Heating offers multiple HVAC system add-on options like Air Scrubbers and UV lights that, especially in combination, significantly improve the filtration and purity of the air in your home. Don’t compromise on the air quality in your home.

Ask about them on a visit, and we will show you what fits the system you have.

What the house can do

Avanelle Home Renovation can help combat the dust by improving your home’s air sealing. We can repair drafty windows and doors, replace your attic insulation and air seal the gaps, adjust door sweeps etc. Pair these improvements and maintenance items with our Air Quality HVAC addons and breathe easy this summer. Dust or no dust.
